IFA 2014: Microsoft announces next major Nokia Lumia update called Denim, available in Q4 2014

At the IFA 2014 trade fair in Berlin, Microsoft has introduced the latest Nokia Lumia update called Denim. It has been announced with the new Lumia smartphones – the Nokia Lumia 730, Lumia 735 and Lumia 830. The update follows the Nokia Lumia Cyan that was released in July. The Denim update combines all the enhancements from the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1, and Lumia-specific experiences including a better Cortana assistance, improved camera features and faster image processing.

With the Nokia Lumia Denim update, you will be able wake-up Cortana voice-assistant by simply saying “Hey Cortana”, even when the phone is idle. It now offers similar experience to “Ok, Google!”, thanks to SensorCore technology. The Nokia Camera app has now replaced with Lumia Camera, which offers a faster and more intuitive photography experience. The photo capture speeds have also been improved and it now only takes milliseconds from shot to shot. Long pressing the camera button starts 4K-quality video recording at 24 FPS. Yes, the update finally brings 4K quality video recording, but to select Lumia devices – the Nokia Lumia 930, Lumia Icon and Lumia 1520. Each frame captures at 8.3-mega pixels resolution, which you can save as an individual high-quality image. Rich Capture feature will shoot an image with HDR and dynamic flash, so you can shoot the picture first and adjust the image later.

Finally, the Glance Screen on compatible Lumia devices now shows more at a glance with Bing Health & Fitness data, notifications, app data, Bing Weather and more.

The Nokia Lumia Denim update will be rolled out first to the Lumia 930, Lumia Icon and Lumia 1520 in Q4 this year. It will be released to the entire compatible Lumia range later.
