Sistema Shyam TeleServices Ltd. (SSTL) which operates CDMA services in India under the brand name of MTS, has announced the shutdown of its services from 10 circles in India.
The Company has informed its customers in these 10 circles to port out and choose another operator, as per their wish. These 10 circles include Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, North East, Orissa and Punjab.
This shutdown will affect around 3000 employees and 2 million subscribers. MTS had invested around $ 3.2 billions in the Indian market. MTS will still offer its services in the other circles until the next auctions starting from 11th March.
MTS has also confirmed its participation in the next auctions. Vsevolod Rozanov, President and CEO for Sistema Shyam TeleServices confirmed the healthy participation of the company in the auctions.
Rozanov shared the company’s plan by saying, ““I would like to confirm our intention to participate in the upcoming spectrum auction in March 2013. We are in the process of drawing an optimal strategy for the auction based on several factors including spectrum pricing, levels of competition etc. The intent is to now look at life beyond all the uncertainties and build an even stronger MTS brand in India. The go forward plan includes continuing with the company’s focus on its data centric-voice enabled strategy in select circles.”
