Lava expected to unveil second-gen Android One smartphone on July 27th

Earlier this month, some reports indicated that Google will launch a Lava-made second-gen Android One smartphone this month. Now Lava has sent out invites for an event on July 27th in India, where the brand is expected to launch the second-gen Android One.

The invite doesn’t exactly mention what exactly the brand is planning to introduce in that event. However, the image accompanying the invite reads, “Witness the Power of 1”, and the figure one on the image highlights some features of the upcoming device.

The Lava Iris X5 4G smartphone was recently spotted on GFXbench, which as per reports, will be the second-gen Android One device. As per the rumour mill, the phone will arrive with a 4.6-inch HD display, and will run Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box. It will be powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor, coupled with 2GB of RAM. The device will offer 16GB of internal memory, a 13MP rear camera, an 8MP front snapper, and 4G LTE support.

The Iris X5 4G is rumoured to be priced around Rs 12,000. 4G LTE support on the device suggests that Lava may partner with Airtel to bundle free data packages with the new Android One offering. We will find out more next week, so watch this space for updates.
