IRCTC launches BookMyTrain app to facilitate cash on delivery for rail tickets

Booking tickets through IRCTC has always been quite a hassle but the Government has been working constantly to improve the ticketing experience. The IRCTC website has always required a credit/debit card or net-banking to book the tickets, which left out a huge chunk of audience which didn’t have these services. But IRCTC is now planning to commence cash on delivery of train tickets.

IRCTC has launched a new app called to IRCTC – BookMyTrain to book tickets online and have them delivered to your house by opting for cash on delivery. The app has been made available on AndroidiOSWindows Phone and Blackberry platforms. The app has been launched as a pilot for now in 200 cities but will be expanded to 700 cities in August.

To book tickets, you need to log in with your IRCTC usename and password. Then you can follow the usual ticketing procedure to book a ticket. You cannot book a tatkal ticket as of now, but that facility will be added in August too. The experience of booking a ticket through the app is quite similar to that of the website.

The only difference is that in the payment section you get an additional option of cash on delivery. The cash on delivery payment cannot be opted for if the travel date is within the next five days. The delivery charges are Rs 40 + service tax for sleeper class and Rs 60 for AC Class tickets. You will be refunded your money only through NEFT in case of a cancellation.
