With an aim to offer financial services to rural areas, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is planning to bring mobile banks to all Indian villages by 2015, according to RBI’s deputy governor K C Chakrabarty statement. RBI has decided that all the areas having a population strength of 2000 should get access to this banking facility. Mobile bank is a facility under which vehicle authorised by a particular bank with officials reaches a particular village on specified time. The vehicle with bank official or authorised person provides limited services like deposit or withdrawal to villagers. In addition to this, finance minister Pranab Mukherjee, in his Budget speech this year, asked banks to reach to the non-banking people especially those in rural areas to achieve the target of providing financial and banking services to all the habitations of population of more than 2000 and above by the year 2012.
