“In association with BSNL, Datawind will be offering users a whole year’s worth of mobile internet with its tablets”
The maker of the Aakash tablet, Datawind has collaborated with BSNL, one of India’s telecom service providers to offer free and unlimited data access to its tablet customers on the purchase of the UbiSlate 7Cz and UbiSlate 3G7 tablets.
Under this offer, the buyers of both the above-mentioned tablets will get access to mobile internet for a whole year sans any additional costs. However, the internet will only be provided on the slower 2.5G network speeds. Nevertheless, Datawind, with its superior data compression technology, promises to offer a better internet browsing experience even at lower speeds, so in theory at least, the slower speeds shouldn’t be an issue.
BSNL has services available in 20 circles across India under its own brand name, except for two circles where the brand operates under the state-owned MTNL brand name. However, it’s not confirmed whether the data benefits be available to users in Delhi and Mumbai, but the rest of the users pan India should be good with the offering.
Additionally, to improve the availability of its products, Datawind has tied up with mobile phone retail chain Univercell, who would help the brand penetrate into the remaining areas throughout the country.
The Datawind UbiSlate 7CZ comes powered with a 1GHz dual-core processor coupled with 1 GB RAM and 4GB of internal storage, expandable up to 32GB using microSD cards. This 7-inch tablet also features both front and rear-facing cameras with a 2-megapixel unit being available at the back and a VGA camera provided on the front. Similarly, the UbiSlate 3G7 features a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor but is identical to the 7CZ otherwise.
Along with Datawind, Micromax also entered in a strategic partnership with Vodafone earlier this month and is now offering 2GB of free 3G data to the buyers of the Micromax Canvas Knight A350. However, as opposed to a no condition plan by Datawind, Micromax has offered this scheme only for existing Vodafone prepaid customers who have not yet opted for 3G data.
