Gionee Elife E6 vs Micromax Canvas Turbo A250 Within three months of the launch of the flagship Android smartphone Canvas 4 A210, Micromax has launched its successor the Canvas Turbo A250. The device aims at offering better hardware configuration which the consumers expected to see in Canvas 4. Without a doubt, the Turbo A250 provides top of the line hardware without breaking a bank. However, this isn’t the only device trying to do so.  Gionee, a Chinese manufacturer that had recently started its operations in India also launched its flagship device Elife E6 sometime back, which offers similar hardware characteristics. While both the flagship devices have too much in common, there are some things that makes them poles apart. But how well they fare against each other, lets find out-

Design

E6_3Design wise Gionee Elife E6 with it unibody design comes across as a very well designed phone. It available in two colors Black and White, which also lends a premium appeal, similar to the iPhone. The device is  sleek with a 7.9 mm thickness and weighs just 128 g, including a 2000 mAh making it very handy. Since, it’s a unibody, the back cover is not removable and SIM card slot is at the sides. In terms of design, the device is inspired from the Apple iPhone 5 and other flagship android smartphones.canvas-4-frame The Canvas Turbo, on the other hand, borrows its design from Canvas 4 and Canvas Doodle 2. The Micromax Canvas 4 was the first device from the Micromax which had a different design incorporating an anodized aluminum body, following that, Canvas Turbo carries the design philosophy ahead. Unlike Gionee Elife, the Canvas Turbo features a removable back cover that houses a non-removable battery and the dual SIM slots.

Display

Both of the smartphone sports a 5 inch IPS display with Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels with a higher pixel density of 441 ppi, resulting in crisper text and better visuals all along. This is only seen in the devices like Samsung Galaxy S4, Sony Xperia Z1 and so on. However they have a slight difference, Gionee Elife E6 uses OGS (One Glass Solution) technology for the display making the device thin and it’s protected by scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 2 layer. Canvas Turbo A250 utilizes a new display technology called CGS (Continuous Grain Silicon) that allows manufacturers to reduce the number of display related hardware components, thereby making the device slim.

Hardware

In processor department, both the devices are powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core MediaTek’s MT6589T processor coupled with a 2 GB of RAM. Graphics are handled by a dedicated PowerVR graphics processor offering better experience while playing games and watching movies. For storage, the Elife E6 offers a generous 32 gigabytes of onboard storage, whereas the Turbo A250 has half of it at 16 GB. Unfortunately, both the devices do not support expandable storage, so you’ll be limited in terms of storage. The devices have standard connectivity options with 2G/ 3G network support, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS, though, Canvas Turbo gains an upper hand as gets two SIM slots in place of one in the Elife E6. For power, both the devices are fueled by a 2000 mAh battery pack.

Software

motion sensing in Elife E6Following global smartphone manufacturers, the Elife E6 runs on Android v4.2.1 JellyBean layered with custom user interface called Amigo. The whole interface is a big departure from Android and seems to be inspired from iOS in terms of icons and even multitasking menu looks similar. It has several Motion Sensing functionalities, similar to Galaxy S4 allowing one to take a call by simple wave of hand over the phone, flipping it to silent the incoming call, etc. Gesture Control detects the head movements and can perform actions like playing/ pausing the video.ifloat Micromax has a conventional approach and offers almost stock Android experience with Android 4.2 on the device, but with a lot of preinstalled apps and useful (and maybe gimmicky like Blow to Unlock) features. With the help of proximity sensor, it has smart gestures functionality, which has almost same motion sensing functionality as on Gionee. Another feature called ifloat, which always remain on all the screens, can bring a quick launcher for calls, messages, browser, settings, etc. Similar to Canvas 4, there are features like Pop up browser/ video player, etc. Micromax has preloaded its own apps like M! Security, and M! Live, along with a slew of third party apps, viz. Spuul, Hike,Opera Mini, BBM, and even games like Dark Man, and Fruit Devil on the device itself.

Camera

Both the Elife E6 and Canvas Turbo flaunt a 13 MP camera at the back with LED flash, although of the two, Gionee Elife E6 gets a Backside illuminated (BSI) sensor, which offers better low light imagery. Gionee has added some camera features like Multi shot- capture 99 images in 21 seconds, Panorama Shot in vertical direction, Gesture and Smile Shot, etc. While, Micromax with its customized camera app Camerazzi adds several interesting abilities for shooting photos and videos in Turbo A250. It can capture 360 degree panorama shots, which means that instead of taking panorama in just singular direction horizontally or vertically, one can move the phone in any direction. There’s also Cinemagraph feature, making it easier to turn a video into animated gif for a particular object and Object Eraser can remove the unwanted things from your nearly perfect shot. For video calling purposes, both the smartphones have been fitted with a 5 MP camera at the front.

Verdict

Gionee Elife E6 is priced at Rs. 21,000, while the Micromax Canvas Turbo A250 is slightly cheaper at Rs. 19,999. Both the devices are neck to neck in terms of display, hardware and camera. However, Gionee Elife E6 offers attractive design and better storage, whereas Micromax has an advantage of brand recognition and thus ensuring better service in India and dual SIM support.
