Update: the article has been updated with recent leaks.
Apple is set to unveil new smartphones in matter of hours from now – the Apple iPhone 7 and its bigger sibling, the iPhone 7 Plus. With so many speculations and high expectations, we’ve gathered all the juice from the rumour mills to bring you everything that the company might offer in its latest smartphones. Let’s begin.
Given the fact that 2017 marks the 10th anniversary of the Apple iPhone, previous reports claimed that the company could be saving the iPhone 7 moniker for next year. A fair deal of leaks indicated that the Cupertino-based technology giant might be launching three new smartphones this year, with the inclusion of a new ‘Pro’ model.
However, recent rumours suggest that Apple will continue with the 7 moniker, and there will be just two phones that will be announced – the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

The major difference in the upcoming iPhones will be the removable of the 3.5mm headphone jack in favour of a second speaker chamber, lightning cable powered EarPods, slimmer waistline and waterproof (IPx7 compatibility). The new iPhones are expected to be 1mm slimmer than the current-gen models and the company might ship a lightning-to-3.5mm adapter out of the box to use standard headphones. As seen in the multiple prototype leak videos, the Apple iPhone 7 will sport redesigned antenna lines on the top and bottom along with larger camera cutouts. The larger iPhone model will also offer three holes at the rear, which fuels the possibility of a Smart Connector.leaks, Apple is retaining the physical home button and will shift to a pressure-sensitive Touch ID sensor next year. The functionality is similar to that of the trackpads on the brand’s latest MacBooks. Interestingly, Apple’s iOS 10, which was released as a developer preview at this year’s WWDC event, replaces the traditional ‘Slide to Unlock’ on the homescreen with ‘Press Home to Unlock’ as well.
The standout feature of the larger iPhone 7 Plus model will be a dual-camera setup on the back. The Apple iPhone 7 will be offered in five colour options – Silver, Gold, Rose Gold and new Dark Black and glossy Piano Black variants which would replace the familiar Space Grey hue.
announced at the WWDC conference 2016. The new iOS 10 platform offers smarter Siri, 3D Touch improvements, expressive messaging amongst other major overhauls. With ‘Raise to wake’, one can glance at the notifications just by picking up their iPhone. Notifications themselves have seen a visual overhaul, and support more functions with widgets and the use of Apple’s 3D Touch technology.
Processor and Memory
The iPhone 7 lineup will boast the all-new Apple A10 SoCs manufactured by the 14nm process by TSMC. The processors Apple has used in the past have been fairly impressive in terms of performance and efficiency, and the trend should continue with the A10. In fact, the reports suggest that it’ll be the fastest chipset ever used in the iPhone lineup, with the clock speed of 2.4GHz. It is expected that the iPhone 7 will boast 2GB of RAM whereas the iPhone 7 Plus will have a gigabyte of RAM extra at 3GB of RAM, which will help in its camera capabilities, which brings us to the next section…
As per the Wall Street Journal, for the first time ever, Apple will offer the base iPhone model with 32GB of storage, phasing out the 16GB storage variants. It appears that the company has finally heard the complaints of users who find 16GB storage insufficient for a flagship smartphone. Apple might also offer a mammoth 256GB storage variant this time around, with the likely models being 32GB, 128GB and 256GB.
Batterysuggests that the Apple iPhone 7 will be powered by a 1,960mAh battery, which will be a small upgrade over the 1,715mAh unit powering the iPhone 6s. If the report is true, the iPhone 7 will get an increase of over 14 percent in battery capacity. In addition to packing the new iPhones with bigger batteries, Apple is also expected to improve battery life via software optimisations and the more efficient A10 processor. In a separate leak, MacRumors has posted an image of a battery it believes to be of the iPhone 7, which has a capacity of 7.04 Whrs. In comparison, the battery capacity of the iPhone 6s is 6.61 Whrs. While much has not been said about the battery on the iPhone 7 Plus, it wouldn’t be surprising to see it have a battery with a slightly boosted capacity from the current generation iPhone 6s Plus, which has a 2,750mAh battery.
